Charity race night raises over £1800 to support local children

A charity race night, hosted by Simon’s Heroes children’s charity, has raised £1810.67 thanks to the generosity of attendees and local businesses.

Held at The Globe Inn in Tamworth, the event included a fish and chip supper and an evening of betting on pre-recorded horse races. The excitement was palpable as participants placed their bets, with proceeds split between the winners and Simon’s Heroes. Additional funds were raised through sponsorship of individual horses and races by local businesses and attendees, as well as a raffle and an auction of two Aston Villa football shirts signed by the women’s team, which were kindly donated by WIP running club.

Charlotte Abbott, Chairman, Simon’s Heroes said: ‘The evening was very well attended and we were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. Guests had a fantastic time cheering for their horses and it was wonderful to see so many come together to support our wonderful cause.

‘The funds raised will go towards supporting local children in need, providing resources and opportunities for young people facing challenges.’

Simon’s Heroes would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the event sponsors – Premier Technical Recruitment, Moor Hall Hotel & Spa, SC Fitness, Moore Therapy, FSG and Prepared Development Partnerships Ltd. The charity would also like to acknowledge the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes for the raffle. These included Planters Garden Centre, the SnowDome, Coppice, Tamworth Football Club, High Vibe, Namco Funscape, Tamworth Assembly Rooms, The Palace, Drew Roberts and Gemma Freeman.

Special thanks go to Nigel Crane, who kept spirits high with his commentary throughout the night, and to the charity’s members and volunteers who helped make the evening a success.
