Leo Deeley, a 9-year-old from Amington, diagnosed with Dias Logan Syndrome, has received a specialist seating system from Simon’s Heroes, designed to enhance his comfort and support within the setting at Two Rivers Primary School.
The syndrome caused by mutations or deletions in the BCL11A gene, is a complex condition characterized by developmental delay/intellectual disability. Leo’s symptoms include chronic reflux, limited ability to stand or walk independently and difficulty sleeping. He cannot stand or sit without support.
Leo’s school identified his need for a specialised chair to enable him to better access activities, thereby enhancing his learning experience. They trialled a Lecky Triton Chair, which helped him maintain a good sitting posture and stabilised his trunk, allowing improved movement of his upper limbs. Leo’s school reached out to the charity to see if it could fund the cost of it.
‘We were delighted when Simon’s Heroes approved our grant request,’ said Sue Forest, Family Liaison Officer for Two Rivers Primary School.
‘Leo is enjoying using it. It’s already making a significant impact on his learning and overall school experience.’
‘The chair’s adaptability means that it will accommodate Leo’s growth for the foreseeable future and will benefit other children at the school once he has outgrown it. Thank you again for providing this. You do an amazing job!’
