Comedy night raises lots of laughs and £1200 for charity

A charity comedy night has raised over £1200 for local children’s charity, Simon’s Heroes.

The fun-packed evening was organised by Darren Mortiboy of Mortified Live Comedy in conjunction with Two Gates Sports and Social Club, who host a charity fundraiser every year for local causes.

Three top acts performed to a full-house who enjoyed over 3 hours of entertainment, which also included Boozy Bingo, Play Your Cards Right, Stand up Heads and Tails and a raffle.

Award-winning comedian, Barbara Nice, who has previously appeared in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights and on Britain’s Got Talent, headlined the evening and delighted the audience with her portrayal of an overenthusiastic housewife from Stockport.

Barbara was supported by The Boys from the All Night Chemist who performed rib tickling and ribald comedy songs and magic from Damon Conlan, an award-winning stand-up magician, who combined sleight-of-hand and comedy to mystify and astound his audience. The evening was seamlessly linked with music from DJ Mark Paul from Radio Tamworth.

Charlotte Abbott, Chairman of Simon’s Heroes said: ‘What a fantastic evening we had and an amazing amount raised! Huge thanks to Darren and Mark, Two Gates Club and the wonderful acts. We had a ball! I’d also like to thank everyone that bought a ticket and donated raffle prizes, as well as our charity members who attended and helped out on the evening. A big shout out to local businesses who donated prizes too! We have a number of beneficiary applications we are currently processing and the money will go towards those.

‘We rely on charity fundraisers, donations from local businesses and individuals to bring in our revenue. If you work for a company that is looking for its next charity beneficiary or are an individual looking for a cause to support for your next fundraiser, please consider us.’
