Simon’s Heroes shortlisted for community award

Our beloved charity, Simon’s Heroes, was shortlisted for Community Group of the Year at the inaugural Spirit of Tamworth awards last night. The event recognises the incredible and selfless work that so many people carry out in our community.

Competition was tough, with all nominees deserving of recognition. Tamworth Cancer and Well Being won our category, who provide much needed support to people and their families coping with cancer and other chronic illnesses.

Two of our beneficiaries were at the awards. Tilly Sweet, a little girl battling cancer who won Child of the Year. We are sending her to Chessington World of Adventures Gruffalo hotel in May. Also present, Olivia Round, whose brother Charlie is also fighting the disease and was recognised for her fundraising efforts. She won the Shining Star award. We have provided the family with garden play equipment and a trip to Harry Potter World. We also arranged for Charlie’s favourite dinosaur to visit him in hospital.

The evening was a humbling experience with so many inspirational people in attendance who put themselves before others to help make a difference.

Thank you to everyone that voted for us.
