Local charity helps empower children through music

Simon’s Heroes children’s charity has purchased an ensemble of musical instruments for the Rainbow Room, which caters for children with additional needs within the Tamworth area.

The Rainbow Room is run by Two Rivers Primary School and located within Anker Valley Primary Academy and plays a pivotal role in fostering children’s self-confidence, concentration and social skills. Anchor Valley Primary Academy works in partnership with Two Rivers, to offer an exceptional environment for this programme, which is managed by a member of Two Rivers leadership team and two other experienced members of their staff.

The Rainbow Room provides therapeutic and educational support for children within mainstream schools in Tamworth with speech, language, emotional, social and learning difficulties, including ADHD and autism.

‘Our sessions are very hands-on,’ explained Mel Brindley, Rainbow Room Lead. ‘We use the classroom and outdoor environment to deliver the sessions and encourage the children to be as independent as possible. We teach the children life skills to help them in the future. Our approach includes a range of therapeutic interventions such as Forest School, Pet Therapy and Hands on Therapy.

‘The Rainbow Room’s approach views a child’s learning needs as equal to their emotional needs and brings many benefits for the children, including an increased sense of empathy for others, feeling of security and self-confidence.

‘We were delighted to learn that our application for additional resource had been approved by Simon’s Heroes. There is little funding for resources. The instruments will allow the children to express themselves creatively and build on a range of skills that they can use and adapt in everyday life, developing self-confidence and communication.

‘Thank you Simon’s Heroes for all of the work you do and support you provide to children with special educational needs and disabilities in our community. We are so grateful.’

Thanks to Euro Car Parts Limited, Tamworth for their generous donation which funded this project. Simon’s Heroes relies on donations from local businesses to continue making a difference.
