Simon’s Heroes is incredibly proud to announce that we have been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service — the highest honour a voluntary group can receive in the United Kingdom and the equivalent of an MBE.
This prestigious award recognises the outstanding work of volunteer-run organisations across the country. For our small charity based in Tamworth, it marks a truly remarkable moment in our journey and celebrates the dedication of every person who has contributed to our mission.
A Decade of Impact
Founded in 2013, Simon’s Heroes has grown from a small group of friends with a shared desire to help local families into a thriving, volunteer-led charity supported by more than 40 members.
Our volunteers give their time, energy and skills to improve the lives of children with long-term health conditions and disabilities within Tamworth and the surrounding areas. We provide specialist equipment, therapies, home and garden transformations, respite breaks and unforgettable experiences — all tailored to make daily life easier and bring joy to the families we support.
This award recognises the collective effort behind everything we do: every event marshalled, every fundraising initiative, every makeover project, and every grant awarded.
A Community Achievement
Simon’s Heroes is built on teamwork, goodwill and the support of our community. This award belongs to:
- Our incredible volunteers, past and present
- Our beneficiaries and families, who trusted us to help
- Local businesses and individuals whose generosity has sustained our work
- Every member who has contributed in any way — from fundraising and fitness challenges to hands-on projects and behind-the-scenes support
We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. Your kindness and commitment have shaped the charity we are today.
Looking Ahead
An official awards ceremony will take place early next year, where the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire will present Simon’s Heroes with the award on behalf of His Majesty The King. Representatives from the charity will also attend a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in the summer of 2026.
This honour not only celebrates what has been achieved so far but also inspires us to continue growing our impact and supporting local families who need us most.
Thank You
From all of us at Simon’s Heroes, thank you for being part of this incredible milestone. Together, we have created something truly special — and we look forward to the next chapter with pride, gratitude and renewed purpose.
C Abbott.
