Simon’s Heroes is proud to have supported Ankermoor School in Tamworth by funding a range of sensory and outdoor resources that will help enrich the daily experiences of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Ankermoor School approached Simon’s Heroes for support as it continued to develop a new sensory room and enhance its outdoor sensory space. Following a visit by one of our trustees to learn more about the project, the charity was delighted to provide a range of resources that will benefit not only pupils at Ankermoor School, but also children with additional needs from schools across the local area who access the school’s specialist Rainbow Room provision.
Ankermoor School currently supports just over 100 pupils and has one of the highest proportions of SEND students in Staffordshire. The school provides education for children with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD and more complex disabilities, with several pupils requiring specialist support throughout the school day.
Simon’s Heroes has funded a variety of sensory equipment and outdoor resources designed to encourage exploration, stimulation, relaxation and imaginative play. The new items will help create calming and interactive environments where children can feel safe, build confidence, develop sensory skills and enjoy meaningful play experiences.
The outdoor area has also been transformed into a welcoming shared space, with plans for shaded areas and sensory activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year. These improvements will provide valuable opportunities for children to learn, play and regulate their emotions in a supportive environment.
Headteacher Gareth Hancox and the team at Ankermoor School have shown tremendous passion and commitment in creating facilities that meet the diverse needs of their pupils. We are delighted to play a part in helping bring their vision to life and ensuring more children can benefit from these wonderful spaces.
Projects like this demonstrate the impact that community support can have, helping local children access environments that promote wellbeing, confidence and development. At Simon’s Heroes, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that improve the lives of children and young people across our community, and we look forward to seeing the positive difference these new sensory spaces will make for many years to come.
