Supporting Dexter’s Independence and Family Adventures

Simon’s Heroes is delighted to have funded a Firefly We Go Mobility Pushchair for six-year-old Dexter Jordan Taylor from Tamworth, helping him and his family enjoy greater freedom, inclusion, and independence in everyday life.

Dexter was diagnosed with epilepsy at just 21 months old and later diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome shortly before his third birthday. The condition affects his muscle tone, causing reduced stamina and fatigue, which makes walking long distances extremely difficult. As a result, many everyday activities and family outings can become challenging.

Dexter is also currently awaiting an autism assessment and continues to experience developmental delays. Although he received NHS speech and language therapy for more than two years, followed by privately funded support, he remains largely non-verbal in school and requires additional one-to-one assistance throughout the school day to help him access learning and participate in activities alongside his peers.

Recognising the significant impact a specialist mobility aid could have on Dexter’s quality of life, Simon’s Heroes was pleased to support the family’s request for a Firefly We Go Mobility Pushchair.

The pushchair will provide Dexter with a safe, comfortable, and supportive way to travel when fatigue limits his ability to walk. It will make journeys to and from school easier, while also enabling him to take part in family holidays, day trips, community activities, and special outings that may previously have been difficult or impossible.

For Dexter’s family, the pushchair represents far more than a piece of equipment. It offers the opportunity to enjoy precious time together without the worry of Dexter becoming exhausted, helping him remain involved in experiences that many families take for granted. By reducing physical barriers, the pushchair will promote inclusion, increase independence, and allow Dexter to engage more fully with the world around him.

Dexter’s mum, Sarah, shared her appreciation:

“The pushchair is fantastic. We are so very grateful for your help. It is already making such a difference to Dexter and our family. Knowing he can travel comfortably and safely means we can plan days out and family activities with much more confidence. It gives Dexter the chance to be included in experiences that would otherwise be very difficult for him, and that means so much to us. Thank you again for your kindness and support.”

Everyone at Simon’s Heroes wishes Dexter and his family many happy adventures ahead and is proud to have played a small part in helping him enjoy greater independence for years to come.
