Simon’s Heroes chosen as Sainsbury’s local charity of the year

Local children’s fundraising group, Simon’s Heroes, is delighted to have been selected as Sainsbury’s Tamworth charity partner after winning the public vote in the supermarket’s annual charity initiative.

Since 2009 Sainsbury’s has been working together with their customers and colleagues to support a local cause at the heart of the local community. These partnerships last for 12 months and include a range of activities such as awareness-raising and fundraising in store, volunteering and donations. They have since raised over £13 million which has made a huge difference to a number of causes.

The national campaign was launched in May when each store nominated local causes to support.  Simon’s Heroes was chosen along with a number of other charities to present to Sainsbury’s Tamworth following its application. Simon’s Heroes was selected as one of three local charities to be shortlisted for the public’s vote. Customers and colleagues could vote via an in-store token system and online through Sainsbury’s website throughout June.

“We are thrilled to be working with Sainsbury’s. Their support will go a long way in helping to raise our profile as well as generate crucial revenue for our charity.” Mark Bennett, Chairman, Simon’s Heroes.

“A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in person and online. Many of you rallied your family and friends too and we are delighted with the outcome.”

Simon’s Heroes will benefit from a year long link with Sainsbury’s Tamworth with staff getting involved with fundraising events and volunteering for the charity.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We’d like to congratulate Simon’s Heroes on being chosen as the new Local Charity of the Year for Sainsbury’s Tamworth. Our colleagues are all really excited about the partnership and we’re really grateful to all of our customers who continue to support the charities we work with.”
