Simon’s Heroes children’s charity has purchased a number of puddle suits for use by the children who attend Two Rivers Primary School and Rainbow Room.
Two Rivers caters for students aged 4-11 years old, who have a range of learning and physical disabilities and associated difficulties such as autism, communication and sensory impairments. The Rainbow Room, run by the school and located within Anker Valley Primary Academy, plays a pivotal role in fostering these children’s self-confidence, concentration and social skills.
Mel Brindley, Rainbow Room Lead, contacted the charity to ask if it could fund the cost of some puddle suits to facilitate the children’s outdoor learning.
‘At Two Rivers Primary and Rainbow Room, many of our children struggle to learn inside the contained space of a classroom. We try to provide the opportunity to learn outside throughout the day, whether it be linked to our maths lessons, taking part in Forest School, or taking care of our animals in our small petting farm.
‘We use the classroom and outdoor environment to deliver the sessions and encourage the children to be as independent as possible. We teach the children life skills to help them in the future.
‘If pupils do not have the correct clothing for this, it can often hold them back from taking part, as they are worried about getting wet or dirty. If we are able to provide the children with the correct clothing, this will take away that barrier to learning.
‘We were delighted when the charity granted our request. The puddle suits will allow all of our children to take part in, and ultimately enhance, their outdoor learning. Thank you to Simon’s Heroes and all of its supporters for your ongoing help.’
