Local fundraising group, Simon’s Heroes, has gifted a little girl with epilepsy, a specialist pushchair, to help make life a little bit easier for her and her family.
Two-year-old Evie Ludlow from Kingsbury was diagnosed with infantile epilepsy at 7 months old, a syndrome characterised by the onset of seizures in early childhood. Her seizures are frequent and have caused a degree of global developmental delay, although it is difficult to determine the full impact, as she is so young.
Her mobility has been affected and is very limited, similar to that of a newborn and day-to-day life for Evie and her family can be challenging. She needs extra support for most activities, particularly when they leave the house.
“We really have to plan ahead if we want to go out. If I plan on going to the farm or zoo I make sure it’s when we all can go together so I can be with Evie and my husband Jon with our son Joseph, and we take it in turns. It can be difficult when I am on my own,” said Evie’s mum Sam.
Simon’s Heroes purchased Evie a Firefly WeGo pushchair, a lightweight and portable pushchair that will provide Evie with extra support, as well as being very easy to assemble and transport, which will greatly assist her parents, and facilitate some normality in their routine.
The charity also treated Evie’s big brother Joseph (5) to a Captain America fancy dress costume.
“Joseph is brilliant with his sister! He is very caring towards her and likes to help push her around in the pushchair. It’s a shame he can’t play with her properly but he likes to help when I do activities with her. For example, if we’re playing a board game, he will hold her hands and help her move the pieces. He likes to involve her.
“Thank you so much to all at Simon’s Heroes, the pushchair has already had a positive impact on our day-to-day living. Joseph is thrilled with his costume too! Thank you for making a difference.”
